Work highlights, updates, and endorsements

We’re having a fun, eclectic year so far. I kicked off 2017 by co-facilitating leadership training for parents and teachers in Brooklyn on slavery, racism, and diversity. I was recently elected to the Brooklyn Historical Society’s, Board of Trustees. My roof garden will grow something new this summer. Still deciding!

My work continues on an oral history project with the Smithsonian National Museum of American History Archives Center on pioneer business leaders. I assisted BBC-Radio with identifying American multicultural Shakespeare programs that were featured in UK’s Celebrate 400 Years of Shakespeare.I plan to get back on track writing and producing a multimedia pilot based on film From Shanghai to Harlem.

Food consultant, ‘cookie’ Queen!

“For recipe development, we booked Sylvia as our ‘cookie consultant.’ She created Harriet Tubman’s ‘getaway snack’ based on an archival African American cookbook recipe. The home-baked treats she developed provided aroma, flavor and drama,” Karen Jones Meadows, Playwright, Actor ‘Harriet’s Return.

My contract was funded by a grant to the Billy Esposito Foundation and Metlife Insurance companies on the topics of grief therapy and poverty. I developed multicultural outreach and engagement strategies to promote and publicize mental health resources for bi-lingual and under-served communities. Click here for the press conference that I directed, as featured on NY1 Noticias.

Tea events

I coordinated two women’s salons – one for black boomer bloggers and the other for an intersectional women’s salon. I advised an indie film festival in Brooklyn about titles, judges, crowdfunding, and sponsors.

As an Education and Training Consultant with New Jersey State Department of Education, Newark Public School and Newark Museum, I designed a literacy and media arts program for teacher-training workshops.
